- I retired from teaching high school English and journalism a few years ago. Letters to the Editor that rant about the extravagant pensions and health coverage of retired educators leave me bemused. If they only knew. My new schedule gives me plenty of time for the causes that are important to me: volunteerism, political activism, family, good books, and good friends.
